If you did not complete the Virtual Jamestown worksheet that we worked on in class today, please finish it for homework tonight.
website: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2007/05/jamestown/jamestown-standalone Write a one page (one sided) response to the Roanoke Video we watched in class. It only needs to be two paragraphs long. In the first paragraph, summarize the story of the first English colony in the North America at Roanoke Island, NC. What do we know? What are the facts?
In the second paragraph, explain what you think happened to the lost colony. Use the facts that you outlined in the first paragraph to develop a theory of their disappearance. You MUST include evidence to support your theory. You may also use some of the websites below to help you in exploring possibilities. Good overview and theories on disappearance: http://history.howstuffworks.com/american-history/roanoke-colony.htm/printable History Channel website: http://www.history.com/news/ask-history/what-happened-to-the-lost-colony-of-roanoke New discovery about Roanoke: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/05/07/new-clue-to-mystery-lost-roanoke-colony/ PBS site WITH A TIMELINE of the English voyages to Roanoke island (very useful): http://www.pbs.org/opb/timeteam/sites/ft_raleigh/history.php Read pages 52-57 in your textbook, and answer questions #1-3 (on page 57).
